5 years SDGs and
5 SDG pioneer companies in Styria

Graz, 30.09.2020

On 25.09.2020, the participants of the first workshop series 2020 "Only 5 steps to your company SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals of the UN)" met in the heart of Graz to present their SDG reports. The following companies were honoured for their work as pioneer companies in Styria: Magna Steyr, Ringana, Metalpine, BDO Austria, Komptech/Hirtenberger Group. The welcoming speech was made by Mag. Gabi Lechner, Vice-President of the Styrian Chamber of Commerce, and Dr. Leopold Strobl, member of the Economic Initiative Sustainable Styria (WIN) and Head of the Economic Service of the Styrian Chamber of Commerce. Guests of honour for the city of Graz were the municipal councilor Kurt Egger and the member of the National Council for the province Ernst Gödl.

The five pioneer companies not only successfully integrated the 17 challenges of the United Nations into their business activities, but also reported on them. These first SDG reports are a sign that companies are gradually beginning to think about issues such as sustainable strategic decisions, purchasing policy, transparency in the value chain, processes in the recycling industry, renewable energies and the well-being of employees. To this end, key figures for the implementation of measures are developed and reviewed within a certain period of time.

Only if a company seriously addresses all 17 sustainability goals will it become "SDG credible". Ana Moreno, managing director of Pro Sustainability, congratulates the five Styrian companies on their courage and commitment and is ready to start the next SDG workshop series in spring 2021. "I hope that many companies will follow you in the next ten years, not only in Austria, and that these goals will be solved by creativity and intelligence on the entrepreneurial level", says Moreno.
